Setting up a Multi Site network

A multi site configuration requires the use of two servers.

The one server will have FileMaker Server installed along with the FrameReady files. This computer is not used for anything but hosting the files on the network. The operating system for this computer only needs to meet the minimum requirements for FileMaker Server 11, such as, Windows 7 Professional, Mac OS X (10.6 or higher) See FileMaker Server Tech Specs.

The second server is setup to allow remote access to the network for the second store location. Windows Server 2008 Standard is used for this purpose. FileMaker Pro is installed on this computer with a volume license from SoftTouch Solutions, Inc. Licensing fees are based on the number of CALs (Client Access License) used on the Server.

For the network to work efficiently, a static IP address must be obtained from your ISP (Internet Service Provider). At the remote location, i.e., the second store, a user will log in to one of the CALs on the Windows Server 2008 Standard machine at the main location using RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol or Remote Desktop Access). Once logged in they will proceed to open FrameReady as they would on a local network.
